Japan's Naomi Osaka, who lit the Olympic flame, has been knocked out of tennis' women's singles.

The world runner-up, who was a big gold favorite after world setter Ashleihgh Barty's exit, lost in two straight sets in today's round of 16.

Saved two match balls

After many unprovoked mistakes from Osaka, which lasted two months earlier this year due to mental illness, Vondrousova won the first set 6-1.

In the second set Osaka played, but in the last game Osaka made several simple mistakes, and the Czech got two match balls.

But Osaka, who had the serve, saved the first two.

But the 22-year-old Czech got a third chance - and then Osaka knocked out the ball, and the home favorite was knocked out.

The highest ranked of the remaining players is now world number six Elina Svitolina
