The fourth competitive day of the Olympic Games in Tokyo turned out to be successful for the Russians.

They have won a total of six medals, three of which are gold.

Evgeny Rylov and Kliment Kolesnikov took first and second places in the 100m backstroke swim.

Taekwondo fighter Vladislav Larin won in the over 80 kg weight category.

And the gymnasts, after the men, took the lead in the team all-around.

The performance of the Russians in Japan was appreciated even by the former captain of the England national football team, Gary Lineker.

On his Twitter page, he called ROC, which stands for Russian Olympic Committee, "the most successful committee in Olympic history."

However, there were enough unpleasant moments on Tuesday.

Unexpectedly, the fans were disappointed by the fencers, who had climbed the podium four times in Japan before.

The epee fencers in the team tournament were expected to continue the banquet, because in this form the country did not make it into the top three only once in the history of the Games.

For example, in Rio de Janeiro, the domestic four won bronze.

This time the team was unlucky with the draw, since already in the quarterfinals it got one of the strongest national teams in the world - Italy - as its rivals.

The confrontation turned out to be quite tense, but the counterparts quickly secured a small gap for themselves.

Violetta Kolobova, the most experienced in the line-up, tried to reduce it in the end, but failed - 31:33.

As a result, the frustrated fencers suffered two more defeats (Poland - 25:31 and Hong Kong - 27:28) and took the last eighth place.

And Kolobova, who took a medal in Rio, hinted at the end of her career.

The judokas also failed to perform successfully.

Daria Davydova was eliminated in the first round of the tournament up to 63 kg, losing to the representative of Venezuela, Enricelis Barrios.

Alan Khubetsov in the weight category up to 81 kg was a little more pleased.

The 2017 European champion passed Vladimir Zoloev (Kmrgizia) and Anthony Valois-Fortier (Canada), but in the quarterfinals he could not do anything with the reigning world champion and the first seeded Matthias Kassa, who eventually won bronze.

And in the consolation round, Alan was defeated by Dominic Russel.

But the boxers Andrei Zamkova and Muslim Gadzhimagomedov were delighted.

Both confidently made it to the quarterfinals.

The first in the category up to 69 kg defeated Stephen Zimba (Zambia), and the second in the heavy weight did not leave a chance to Abdelhafid Benshabla (Algeria).

But, perhaps, the most memorable in this sport was the act of the Moroccan Younes Baall, who decided to repeat the “feat” of Mike Tyson and bit David Nyike from New Zealand in the ear.

This did not help the African to achieve success.

He suffered a major defeat and ended his performance at the Olympic Games.

Not everything goes smoothly for the Russians in team sports either.

So, the Russian women's handball team arrived in Tokyo in the rank of the current Olympic champion, but so far it does not justify the title of the favorite at all.

In the first match, the team was content with a draw with Brazil (24:24), and in the second, it was completely defeated by Sweden (24:36).

All this happened in front of the former coach of the team Evgeny Trefilov, who also came to Japan.

“We have to start working.

It is most important.

Do not walk and tell, but go down from the pedestal, lift your pants, skirts and go off-road!

There is no other way.

The player must follow the instructions of the coach.

Discipline and discipline again.

It has been like this all my life, ”quotes the R-Sport specialist.

Now Russia needs to beat Hungary, France and Spain in order not to fall out of the first four of the group and make it to the playoffs.

Fortunately, the volleyball players improved their position.

They started the tournament with a major defeat from the Italians (0: 3), but on Tuesday they themselves left Argentina out of work in three sets (3: 0).

In swimming, the fans expected more from the experienced Yulia Efimova.

The multiple Olympic medalist came to her third Olympics and at a distance of 100 m breaststroke, it seemed, she could compete for a medal.

Unfortunately, in the final, the 29-year-old athlete was hopelessly far from the top three.

Almost half a second separated Efimova from the bronze medal.

With a result of 1: 06.02, Julia took fifth place and even surpassed 16-year-old compatriot Evgenia Chikunova, who made her debut at the Games.

After the finish, a frustrated native of Grozny admitted that she was not in the best shape.

It is possible that these OIs will be the last for her.

“While sadness is not felt.

Everyone is already dragging me to another Olympics.

Except, it seems, dads, everyone wants me to stay for another three years.

Nothing can be ruled out, but so far I have no such plans, ”TASS quotes Efimova.

The reigning European champion in this event Martin Malyutin also took the fifth place in the final at a distance of 200 m freestyle.

The young Russian showed a result of 1: 45.01 and was unable to compete for awards with the British Thomas Dean and Duncan Scott, as well as the Brazilian Fernando Schaeffer.

In addition, it is worth noting that the Russian national team reached the final in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay.

Moreover, Mikhail Dovgalyuk, Ivan Girev, Alexander Krasnykh and Mikhail Vekovishchev showed the fourth time in qualifying (7.05.16).

The decisive swim will take place on Wednesday.

In table tennis, Kirill Skachkov completed his performance in the men's singles tournament.

The domestic athlete got into opponents in the third round of the seventh seeded Dmitry Ovcharov and could not do anything with the favorite - 0: 4.

Of the more pleasant events, the victories of the badminton players stand out.

Sergei Sirant in the first match of the singles broke the resistance of the Hungarian Gergej Krausz - 21:18, 21:18.

In doubles, Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov, after two defeats in a row, finally proved to be stronger than the Nigerians Godwin Richard Olofua and Anuoluwapo Opeyori - 21: 8, 21:10.

However, they have already lost their chances of reaching the playoffs.

And in the competition of archers, Elena Osipova managed to get to the 1/8 finals, knocking out Siakuera Mashaikh from the fight first, and then Michelle Kroppen.

Among other events of the competition day, the victory of Flora Duffy in the triathlon draws attention.

She became the first representative of Bermuda in history to win Olympic gold.

But the Russians in this form were unsuccessful.

Alexandra Razaryonova fell behind by a circle, and Anastasia Gorbunova did not reach the finish line at all.

She fell off her bike on the wet asphalt and sustained injuries to her knees and elbows.

The participant could not continue the competition.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan won the first ever Olympic medal.

Weightlifter Polina Guryeva took silver in the weight category up to 59 kg.

Also worth noting is the debut of surfing at the Olympics.

The first champions were Brazilian Italo Ferreira in men and American Karissa Moore in women.

Finally, one cannot fail to mention the achievement of the Swiss athletes, who occupied the entire podium in mountain biking.

In the 24.4 km race, Yolanda Neff showed the best time.

Sina Fry finished behind her, and Linda Indergand took third place.
