He is back !

Eight years (already) after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Mamadou Sakho returns to Ligue 1. The central defender signed in Montpellier.

He had been playing at Crystal Palace since 2016, after a difficult stint at Liverpool.

He was at the end of his contract with the Eagles.

According to

Le Midi Libre

and

L'Equipe

, the duration of the contract would be three years.

“I am very happy to come back to France with a great project such as the one in Montpellier.

We had a lot of discussions with the managers, the project is brilliant and won me over, with a lot of young people and good players, ”said Sakho on the Montpellier website.

A role model for young people

In Montpellier, Mamadou Sakho will take over from veteran Vitorino Hilton, who retired at the age of 43, and Daniel Congré, with a non-renewed contract recruited by Dijon.

With his long experience and his mental strength, he is promised to play an executive role in a recomposed defense alongside the young Brazilian Matheus Thuler, on loan from Flamengo.

"He will bring us his experience, his desire and panache", greeted on the club's website the president Laurent Nicollin: "I hope that he will be one of those leaders who will be able to supervise our young people to help them progress".
