At the end of the fifth day of competition, the French delegation had five medals, two of which were won by judoka Sarah-Léonie Cysique (silver) and fencer Manon Brunet (bronze).

Tenth in the general classification, the France team can however regret many disappointments.

The honor of the France team is saved at the Tokyo Olympics thanks to two new medals obtained on Monday.

First, the judoka Sarah-Léonie Cysique walked away with the money in the -57 kilogram category after her defeat in the final.

An hour later, it was sabreuse Manon Brunet who won the small fencing final.

The other satisfaction of the tricolor clan rests on the French women's basketball team at 3x3 which qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition.

With five medals, France ranks 10th in the general table, just behind Italy.

But this fifth day of competition was punctuated by many missed charms for the Blues.

The first is to be credited to triathlete Vincent Luis, double world champion who only arrived in 13th position early this morning in Tokyo.

Sarah-Léonie Cysique, so close to the gold medal

The French delegation added two medals in its purse thanks to Sarah-Léonie Cysique and Manon Brunet. First, it was the 23-year-old judoka who took the silver medal in the -57 kg category. The young Frenchwoman, who was seeking the Olympic title, was disqualified after a movement deemed dangerous for herself by the judges. "I admit that I was a little in the misunderstanding. For me, I do not do dangerous actions. So there is a feeling of injustice but it is sport and the referees are there to judge according to their vision. If they consider that I have done a dangerous action, I must accept it, even if I do not agree, "said Sarah-Léonie Cysique after her fight, who remains satisfied with her second place.

Manon Brunet, the revenge

Another satisfaction of the day for the French came soon after, through the bronze medal gleaned by fencer Manon Brunet.

The 25-year-old saber, seeded N.4, won with style in the small final of the discipline against the Hungarian Anna Marton, 15 touches to 6. The Lyonnaise collapsed in tears after the duel , congratulated by her teammates.

Manon Brunet managed to get back on track after her disappointing match in the semifinals, where she lost against Russian Sofia Pozdniakova (N.16), by 15 to 10. She thus takes her revenge on the Rio 2016 Olympics, where she had failed at the foot of the podium.

The enormous disillusionment of Vincent Luis

The day of the Blues had started badly all the same. Double world triathlon champion, the Frenchman Vincent Luis, big favorite, only arrived in 13th position in the Olympic event. Yet in the lead after swimming, the Frenchman continued his momentum by bike before cracking at the start of the race. The 32-year-old achieves his worst Olympic performance, after an 11th place in 2012 and a 7th place in 2016, while he was aiming for the Olympic title this summer. After the race, the first Habs in the standings said he was disturbed by the false start. He also regretted not having had "the sufficient level" to play the podium.

The Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt, impressive on the last lap and at the end of the effort, became Olympic triathlon champion.

After the failure of Vincent Luis in the triathlon, the tricolor relay of the 4x100 meters freestyle led by

Florent Manaudou,

Maxime Grousset, Mehdy Metella and Clément Mignon

Marie Wattel

broke at the end of the 100-meter butterfly race, also finishing 6th in the event.

The French swimmers in the 4x100-meter freestyle, after a good start, finished in sixth place in the Olympic final.

Magda Wiet-Hénin

, was eliminated in the first round by the Egyptian Hedeya Wahba in the -67 kg category. In canoeing, Frenchman

Martin Thomas

, first in the semi-finals, only finished 5th in the final. Same result for

Victor Koretzky

on the mountain bike race, where he was nevertheless in a fight for the podium. Bad news also for

Enzo Lefort

in fencing, beaten in the quarterfinals by the Italian Garozzo, reigning Olympic champion, on the score of 15 touches to 10.

Martin Thomas finished fifth in the canoe slalom final.

The French shooting also was not at the rendezvous on Monday.

After the heavy defeat of

the French archery team

against the United States 6 innings to 0,

Éric Delaunay

ranked 5th in the skeet final (clay target shooting) and did not not repeated his performance in the preliminary phase where he had broken the Olympic record for qualifying.

On the racket sports side, in addition to the elimination of

Fiona Ferro

, the last French representative in the women's singles table, the mixed table tennis duo

Emmanuel Lebesson

and

Team sports ensure

On the team sports side, however, all is well for the French.

For the first appearance of 3x3 basketball at the Olympics,

the Blue with Laetitia Guapo

qualified in the quarter-finals thanks to two victories in two matches played on Monday, against weak Mongolia (22-18) and the Russian Olympic Committee ( 17-14).

They will play their quarter-final on Tuesday, from 1:30 p.m. French time.
