On the fourth day of the Tokyo Olympics, 21 sets of medals will be played, and Russian athletes will have good chances to earn new awards in their piggy bank and improve their position in the overall standings. So, the resounding success of sports gymnasts in the team all-around may well inspire compatriots to feat in the women's tournament. Angelina Melnikova, Vladislav Urazova, Lilia Akhaimova and Victoria Listunova have already made a small sensation by winning the qualification, but in the final they will have to prove their superiority from scratch. Of course, it will not be easy for them, especially considering that they will be opposed by the undisputed favorite of the competition, the US team, led by the leader of recent years, five-time Olympic champion Simona Biles.

An additional motivation for Russian women can be the fact that the victory will become a truly historic event for the country. If men won the first gold for the first time in 25 years, then women did not rise to the highest step of the podium even longer - since 1992, and then formally this was done by the united team of the former USSR countries. The last two Olympics, domestic gymnasts have invariably been inferior to American women.

Russian swimmers have not yet managed to please their fans in Tokyo: in the previous two competition days, they did not manage to win a single medal. However, on Tuesday they will have a chance to reverse this unpleasant trend. All hope is for Kliment Kolesnikov, who will perform in the final 100 m backstroke. It will not be easy for him to fight with the titled American Ryan Murphy and Australian Mitch Larkin, but he is quite capable of climbing the podium. Yevgeny Rylov, two-time world champion in this discipline, will not be a whipping boy either.

In the 200-meter freestyle, rising swimming star Martin Malyutin, who showed the best time in qualifying, will compete for the awards. In the women's 100-meter breaststroke final, two Russians made it to the final. One of the main stars of the national team, Yulia Efimova, in recent years does not please fans with gold medals, but in Tokyo she will try to win the first gold, which is so lacking in her collection. It will be interesting to watch the 16-year-old debutant of the Games Evgenia Chikunova, for whom this swim will be the first serious test in her career.

After the historic triumph of taekwondo player Maxim Khramtsov, who became the first Russian champion of the Games in this sport, Vladislav Larin, who competes in the weight category over 80 kg and is the first seed, will be able to repeat his success. On Tuesday, he will start his journey with the 1/8 finals. He will be opposed by one of the most shocking Olympians - Pete Taufatouf, famous for the fact that he appears half-naked at the opening ceremonies of the Games. However, so far the Tongan cannot boast of anything else.

On Tuesday, for the first time in the history of the Games, there will be mixed team air rifle and pistol tournaments.

Once again, Russia will have a good chance of winning top awards.

And although Artyom Chernousov did not make it to the final in the individual tournament, he will be paired with the first gold medalist in Tokyo, Vitalina Batsarashkina.

Also in this discipline, the country will be represented by the bronze medalists of the World Championship Margarita Chernousova and Anton Aristarkhov.

In rifle shooting, Anastasia Galashina, who brought the team the debut medal of the Olympics, will perform together with Vladimir Maslennikov, who will try to rehabilitate himself for an unsuccessful performance in the individual final.

Experienced Sergei Kamensky, together with Yulia Karimova, will also count on the first Olympic gold in his career.

The team epee is traditionally the most difficult discipline for Russian women, who will face the strongest Italians.

However, domestic fencers only once were left without a medal in this type of program, so this time they can well count on success.

All attention will be paid to Aizanat Murtazaeva, who made a real sensation in the individual tournament, finishing fourth.

In rowing slalom, Alsu Minazova will try to impose a fight on her rivals.

There are not many titles on the 23-year-old athlete's account, so reaching the final will be a success for her.

It is worth noting that, according to weather forecasters, a powerful typhoon is approaching Tokyo, which may complicate outdoor competitions on the water.

Victoria Kirsanova will compete in the women's mountain bike, but it will also be difficult for her to fight the favorites of the discipline - the Swiss Jolanda Neff and Sina Frey, as well as the world champion in mountain biking Pauline Ferrand-Prevost.

Domestic judokas are not yet pleasing fans in Tokyo, and, unfortunately, the situation is unlikely to change in the categories up to 63 kg for women and up to 81 kg for men.

In the 1/16 finals, Daria Davydova will be opposed by the representative of Venezuela Anrikelis Barrios, and Alan Khubetsov will be opposed by the Kyrgyz citizen Vladimir Zoloev.

In boxing, the reigning world champions Muslim Gadzhimagomedov (heavyweight) and Andrei Zamkova (welterweight) will hold their first fights. In the 1/8 finals, the native of Dagestan will meet with the Algerian Abdelhafid Benshabla, who is only the winner of the All-African Games. And his compatriot will be confronted by 20-year-old Stephen Zimba from Zambia, who also did not celebrate significant achievements.

In team sports, the time for medals has not yet arrived, but this does not make them less exciting. Russian tennis players Karen Khachanov and Aslan Karatsev should not face serious resistance in the second round, where they will be opposed by Australian James Duckward, who has not won a single ATP tournament in his career, and the quarter-finalist of the 2013 Australian Open Jeremy Chardy. And Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova should have no problems in the match with the 46th racket of the world Sara Sorribes-Tormo.

In 3x3 basketball, the Russians will have to face the Serbs, who currently do not know defeat in the group stage.

Our team has three failures and two victories, so an exceptionally positive outcome of the match is required to advance to the playoffs.

Women have already solved this problem, but they have the opportunity to compete for a direct ticket to the semifinals.

To do this, they need to beat the Italians.

Domestic volleyball players will play with Argentines.

They are currently fifth in Group B and must win tomorrow's match to keep their chances of reaching the playoffs.

The handball players have a less deplorable situation, but they will have to meet with the leader of their sextet Sweden.
