In boxing, Louis Richarno Colin and Mohammed Houmri advance.

On the other hand, it is already over for Ons Jabeur in tennis.

SWIMMING

Tunisian

sensation

in the final of the 400m freestyle:

Ahmed Hafnaoui

, 18, disgusted the competition by winning an incredible gold medal with a brilliant time of 3'43''36.

Could he be the

worthy successor of Osama Mellouli?

In the 100m breaststroke, the

South African Tatjana Schoenmaker

impressed in her series by setting a new Olympic and African record (1'04''82).

It will be the attraction to follow in the semi-finals scheduled for Monday.

Guinean Mariama Touré did not compete in her series, while Mauritian Alicia Kok Shun did not qualify for the semi-finals.

In the 100m backstroke, the Zimbabwean Donata Katai and the Seychellois Felicity Passon contested the series but did not achieve qualifying times for the semi-finals.

The same was true in the 200m freestyle for Botswanan James Freeman and Libyan Audai Rushdi Hamed Hassouna.

In the 100m backstroke, Malagasy Heriniavo Rasolonjatovo and South African Pieter Coetze finished last in their respective series.

In the 400m freestyle, the Ivorian Talit Te Flan and the Madagascan Tiana Rabarijaona did not record good enough times to reach the final.

TAEKWONDO

No second African medal in taekwondo on Sunday. In the under 57 kg category, Nigerian Tekiath Ben Youssouf dominated Japanese Mayu Hamada (11-6) before falling in the quarterfinals against Russian Tatiana Minina (15-10). In the repechage, the African champion beat the Greek Fani Tzeli (2-0 in the golden score) before losing at the end of the fight for the bronze medal against the Taiwanese Chia-Ling Lo (10-6). Moroccan Nada Laaraj lost in the first round against American and future Olympic champion Anastasija Zolotic (11-4), then in the draft against Turkish Hatice Kubra Ilgun (6-0).

In the under 68 kilograms, the Egyptian Abdelrahman Wael Mahmoud Abow won against the Spaniard Javier Polo Perez (22-20) but lost nothing in the quarter-finals against the Bosnian Nedzad Husic ( 8-7).

Malian Seydou Fofana suffered an entry defeat against Uzbek Ulugbek Rashitov (38-17), and a second in the draft against South Korean Daehoon Lee (11-9).

FENCING

No medal but a great day for the young Egyptian Mohamed Elsayed in individual épée.

He created a surprise by eliminating in the first round the French Olympic champion Yannick Borel (15-11) before dismissing in the round of 16 the Chinese Minghao Lan (15-9).

In the quarter-finals, the young 18-year-old swordsman cracked at the end of the match against the Ukrainian Igor Reizlin (13-15).

In women's individual foil, however, the day was very short for the Africans, with the elimination as soon as they entered the competition of the Algerian Meriem Mebarki, the Tunisian Ines Boubakri and the Egyptians Yara Elsharkawy, Noha Hany and Nora Mohamed.

TENNIS

Big disappointment for the Tunisian Ons Jabeur.

First Arab woman to reach the round of 16, then the quarter-finals at Wimbledon earlier this month (https://www.rfi.fr/fr/sports/20210706-tennis-la-tunisienne-ons-jabeur-battue-en- quarter-% C3% A0-wimbledon), the 23rd player in the world was eliminated in the first round by Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro, 206th at WTA, 6-4, 6-1.

After 2012 and 2016, Ons Jabeur stops entering for the third time in a row at the Olympic Games.

On the men's side, Egyptian Mohamed Safwat also lost to Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (7-5, 6-1).

¡Muy feliz por la primera victoria en Tokyo!

SKATEBOARD

The first event in the history of skateboarding at the Olympic Games did not smile on the only African representative, the South African Brandon Valjalo.

He did not qualify for the final of the street event, finishing 18th out of 20 competitors.

With 16.41 points on the clock, he finished far from the eighth and last qualifier (32.66 points).

The Olympic title went

to Japanese Yuto Horigome

.

SOCCER

Authors of a draw against Brazil, reigning Olympic champion (0-0),

the Ivorians are getting closer to the quarter-finals

.

All they need is a draw against Germany on Wednesday in the last Group D game.

For its part, South Africa conceded a defeat both cruel and spectacular against the France team (4-3), in Pool A. The South Africans led three times in this meeting before conceding two goals in the final minutes.

After two defeats, the Bafana Bafana have only a tiny chance to qualify for the rest of the competition.

They will have to beat Mexico on the one hand, erasing their negative goal difference, and on the other hand count on a victory for Japan against France on Wednesday.

In Group C, Egypt, beaten by Argentina (1-0), can still hope to validate their ticket for the quarter-finals if they win against Australia in the last match.

BADMINTON

The Egyptian Doha Hany, engaged in group A of the preliminary round, suffered a definitive setback for her entry into contention against the Chinese Fei Yu (2 sets to 0).

She will face Turkey's Neslihan Yigit on Tuesday.

Doha Hany was no better in mixed doubles with his compatriot Adham Hatem Elgamal (preliminary round, group A).

Both lost to Koreans Seungjae Seo and Yujung Chae (2 sets to 0).

On Monday, they will face Dutch pair Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek.

BASKET

First game and disappointment for the Nigerians in the

Olympic tournament

(group B).

As on July 14, during their final preparation match for the Games, the D'Tigers gave in to Australia on Sunday, in the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo (84-67).

The first quarter was balanced (23-23), but the Australians took a small advantage in the second (20-17).

They confirmed after the break (15-12) before taking off at the end of the game, in the last quarter (26-15).

Nigeria have a date for their second game with Germany on Wednesday.

ROAD CYCLING

In the women's event, South African Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finished in 13th place, 1'46 behind Austrian Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer.

She is the only African cyclist to have completed the race.

Her compatriot Carla Oberholzer, the Namibian Vera Looser, the Ethiopian Selam Amha and the Eritrean Mosana Debesay did not succeed.

JUDO

New dismal day for African judo with the eliminations in the first round of the four African representatives in the category of less than 66 kilos for men: the Egyptian 2020 African champion Mohamed Abdelmawgoud against the Brazilian Daniel Cargnin, the Nigerian Ismaäl Alhassane against Frenchman Kilian Le Blouch, Zambian Steven Mungandu against Slovenian Adrian Gomboc and Mozambican Kevin Loforte against Israeli Baruch Shmailov.

Only the Moroccan Soumiya Iraoui managed to pass a lap, in the category of less than 52 kilos.

The reigning African champion first dominated Thailand's Kachakorn Warasiha before losing to Britain's Chelsea Giles in the round of 16.

Bissau-Guinean Taciana Cesar, in the same category, only stayed on the tatami for three minutes against South Korean Da-Sol Park.

WEIGHTLESS

The Andriantsitohaina brothers from Madagascar were unable to enter the top 10 in their category.

Eric Herman, weighing less than 61 kilos, and Tojonirina Alain, weighing less than 67 kilos, both finished 13th out of 14th after lifting respectively 264 and 285 kilos in total.

HANDBALL

The Angolans, triple reigning African champions, were slapped on entry by Montenegro, fifth at the last Worlds (33-22).

But nothing is lost for Angola: the first four of a group of six will take part in the quarter-finals.

The next match against Norway on Tuesday promises to be very complicated, however.

The Norwegians are reigning European champions.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Their male compatriots Osama Elsaeid and Youssef Helmy Makkar are not doing any better: they placed 42 and 45th out of 47 in the 10-meter air rifle event.

WATER POLO

Like the women's team the day before, South Africa also lost heavily for its entry into the men's category.

61 years after their last participation in the Olympics, the South Africans sank against the Italians, reigning world champions and bronze medalists in Rio in 2016 (2-21).

They will face the team of the United States, more within their reach, Tuesday.

ROWING

In single sculls, the semi-finals A / B, which will be used to determine the rowers who will contest the final for the medals, will be held without an African representative.
