Worn by Gignac, author of a hat-trick, and Savanier, the French Olympic football team won 4-3 against South Africa on Sunday.

The Blues temporarily take first place in Group A.

Corrected at the opening by Mexico, the French Olympic football team pulled off the 4-3 victory against South Africa thanks to Gignac and Savanier on Sunday in Saitama at the Tokyo Games.

After the inaugural slap received against the Mexicans (4-1), the French can thank André-Pierre Gignac, author of a hat-trick (57th, 79th, 86th) and Téji Savanier, scorer in added time (90 + 2).

The Blues temporarily take first place in Group A before the match between Japan and Mexico in the evening.

Jostled in the first period by much more enterprising South Africans, the French conceded many chances and were saved by saves from Bernardoni and by the crossbar on a penalty missed by Luther Singh (41st).

André-Pierre Gignac had previously been denied a goal for an offside position (29th).

Savanier offers victory to the Blues

The South Africans ended up scoring by Kodamelo Kodisang (53rd) taking advantage of a defensive error by Clément Michelin and a bad exit from Bernardoni.

But André-Pierre Gignac equalized with a strike between the legs of the goalkeeper after a service Randal Kolo Muani (57th).

The South Africans regained the advantage by Evidence Makgopa (73rd) before a new equalization of Gignac (79th).

In this crazy match, Teboho Mokoena placed his team in front (81st) before Gignac, again, put the two teams tied on a penalty hit hard (86th). It was finally Téji Savanier who offered the victory to the Blues in added time (90 + 2, 4-3)
