The Tokyo Olympics recorded shabby ticket sales while most games were played without spectators in the aftermath of COVID-19.

The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee announced today (22nd) that the sale of Olympic tickets was only 40,000.

The Japanese media reported that 3.63 million tickets were originally sold for the 33 sporting events of the tournament, but after the emergency took effect, Fukusami Prefecture and other countries agreed with the no-no-show policy, so 3.59 million tickets were subject to refund.

It is known that about 17.7 trillion won was invested in this event, including investment in facilities and infrastructure, and the Tokyo Organizing Committee estimated that the loss of ticket revenue due to spectators would reach 900 billion won.
