Valery Karpin has been appointed the new head coach of the Russian national football team.

This was reported by the Russian Football Union (RFU).

According to the president of the organization, Alexander Dyukov, the specialist showed himself successfully as a player, and has already gained the necessary experience in the coaching field.

“Valery Karpin needs no introduction to football specialists and fans. He was one of the best Russian players of his generation, playing well for both clubs and the Russian national team. After completing his career as a football player, Valery Georgievich received a rich coaching experience, including successfully working in the Rostov club in recent years. The national team is a new challenge for him. And we saw on his part the desire and readiness to accept this challenge, ”the RFU press service quotes Dyukov as saying.

An agreement with a specialist is calculated until December 31 of this year with the possibility of extension.

During this time, the national team will have to hold qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The contract will be signed on July 26, but all the conditions have already been discussed.

According to media reports, Viktor Onopko may enter Karpin's headquarters, negotiations with whom are underway at the moment.

Nikolay Pisarev will presumably become another assistant.

The mentor himself thanked the RFU for their trust and noted the importance of this challenge.

“For both the player and the coach, the invitation to the national team is a great honor and high appraisal of his work.

For me, this is a new, very responsible and interesting stage in my coaching career.

Now the team is faced with the task of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And we will make every effort to solve this problem ”, - assured Karpin.

At the moment, Karpin holds the position of Rostov's mentor, the agreement with which is calculated until 2025.

In the next six months, he will combine two posts, which was one of his main conditions during negotiations with the RFU.

After the resignation of Stanislav Cherchesov, the RFU announced that the name of the new head coach would become known before the start of the 2021/22 season.

The organization was in no hurry to disclose details, however, the mentor of the German youth team Stefan Kunz was named as the main candidate.

But, according to media reports, the negotiations were unsuccessful due to the fact that the parties did not agree on the length of the contract.

Experienced Kurban Berdyev was also considered as Cherchesov's successor.

Some time ago, information appeared that he had already agreed to lead the national team and even came to Moscow to sign an agreement.

However, later the ex-coach of Rubin himself denied these rumors.

In addition, it was reported that Sergei Semak, Leonid Slutsky and a number of foreign coaches, including Andre Vilash-Boash, applied for the post.

Russian football experts positively assessed the RFU's decision, although they admitted that it is partly associated with some risks.

So, the ex-mentor of Lokomotiv Yuri Semin suggested that a specialist is able to cope with the main task facing the national team at the moment - to reach the upcoming world championship.

“In this situation, appointing Karpin as the head coach of the national team is a good choice.

What situation?

The situation is difficult, the team must go to the world championship.

Valery Karpin is a strong-willed guy with character.

I wish him good luck! ", - quotes Semin" Championship ".

In turn, the former goalkeeper Rinat Dasaev praised Karpin's approach to work.

He agreed that the specialist was in a difficult situation, which his experience would help him to cope with.

“Valery Karpin worked at Spartak, coached Rostov, played in Spain.

Probably, something should work out.

The only thing is that our players will not change.

If he can implement his approach to team building, then we will be fine.

Professional qualities, it seems to me, are in the foreground.

That is the kind of person he is, what can you do now?

If he found a common language in the teams, then in the national team he will be able to build a dialogue, "- quotes the words of Dasaev" Sport-Express ".

The appointment was also supported by the former owner of "Spartak" Andrey Chervichenko.

“A person thoroughly knows our football, all the players, knows their value, understands their strengths and weaknesses.

Due to the motivation for the game, Karpin is probably one of the best in our country.

Asking can also be healthy.

By the way Rostov constantly generates players, how they get into the club as average, and come out at the most expensive price.

Karpin brings them to the top state.

It is a very competent and excellent solution, ”said Chervichenko.

However, not everyone reacted positively to the news of Karpin's invitation.

So, the famous journalist Vasily Utkin called him a mistake, since, in his opinion, the head coach of the national team should not combine the two positions.

“Karpin is a very brave guy.

He cannot ignore such a challenge.

And work in the national team is up to him.

Moreover, I would say that this work is organic to him.

But this is much out of time.

Alignment is not allowed.

This is not how it should be done, "Utkin wrote in his Telegram channel.

The first match under the leadership of Karpin will be played by the Russian national team very soon - on September 1 at Luzhniki it will meet with Croatia as part of the selection for the World Cup in Qatar.
