Before the opening of the Tokyo Paralympic Games next month, the WHO = World Health Organization and the IPC = International Paralympic Committee have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote health and sports for all people, including persons with disabilities. We will cooperate.

According to the IPC's announcement, WHO Secretary-General Tedros and IPC Chairman Parsons, who are visiting Japan, signed a memorandum of cooperation in Tokyo on the 22nd.

The memorandum of understanding was signed as part of efforts to provide quality health and medical services to all, and both parties will be more susceptible to quality rehabilitation and para-athletes and people with disabilities will participate in sports in the future. We will cooperate to ensure equal opportunity.

WHO estimates that while approximately 15% of the world's population has some disability, only one in two can receive medical care such as rehabilitation.

WHO Executive Director Tedros said, "Sports and health reinforce each other. This partnership not only allows more people with disabilities to participate in sports, but also opens up their potential for everyone. I hope we can show that it is important to have the care and skills necessary to demonstrate it. "

"Sports are a great tool for people to lead active and healthy lives, and this new partnership will make a significant contribution to society," said Parsons, chairman of IPC.
