Eight years of close cooperation pays off.

Most recently a World Cup gold in the 470 class in sailing in March, followed by the European Championship bronze in Vilamoura, Portugal in May.

- We have had a great spring and a good recharge before the Olympics, says Fredrik Bergström.

- We usually say ourselves that we think we are a world-class team.

Used to be competitors

Today they are an obvious team - but once upon a time they were competitors who constantly competed against each other.

In the end, the two sailors decided to invest together instead, says Fredrik Bergström.

Two-man sailing is a team sport that requires experience - something that requires joint work for a long time, emphasizes Anton Dahlberg.

- It's like a marriage.

It's tough, you have to respect each other, and you have to have a humility and somehow create a common vision, he says and continues:

- In our case, we had both had partnerships with others.

Like you said, we were competitors, so we understood quite early on how important duality is, but how difficult and fragile it is.

From an early stage, we cared for it.

"Swedes are to be reckoned with"

In addition to the World Cup gold, the duo has previously won silver in 2017 and bronze in 2019 in the two-man dinghy class.

At the Olympics in Rio, they ended up in sixth place, and now fierce competition awaits in the water off the small island of Enoshima a few miles southwest of Tokyo.

- All competitors would say that the Swedes are to be reckoned with. It is a very stable boat and a very high minimum level. They will be involved and make up for the medals. Will they say that we are the winners? I do not know, says Anton Dahlberg.
