Olympic football on the men's side started on Thursday - and the premiere was a rather tame story.
Spain came into play with five European Championship players.
Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Pedri, Pau Torres and Eric Garcia were all in today's starting eleven when it was initially difficult to get to the game against Egypt.
In the usual Spanish order, the national team, dressed in white, had a lot of ball, but the sharp chances were largely missed.
But in the 28th minute they flashed.
Dani Ceballos came loose and pulled away with a heavy shot that hit the goal frame.
A chance that was the best of the first half.
Still poor in others
The second half continued on the same track: without any clear goal opportunities.
In the final minutes, however, Spain was close to breaking the deadlock.
Substitute Rafa Mir got a forehead on a post, but the Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy was placed correctly.
The match ended 0-0.
The group also includes Argentina and Australia.
They will meet later on Thursday.
