It started as a rather unlucky story, when France, spearheaded by the experienced Tigres players Florian Thauvin and Andre Pierre Gignac, faced a hungry Mexico.

And it took until the second half before it got really hot.

Then it was Mexico who grabbed the baton and shifted up to give themselves a dream start to the second act.

In the 47th minute, Alexis Vega stepped forward and put 1-0 for his national team.

Eight minutes later it was time again.

That time via Sebastian Cordova.

The midfielder extended the Mexican lead to 2-0 and a comfortable lead.

Heat up

But France would give the match excitement.

After 68 minutes, the French got a penalty and Gignac stepped forward and made a distinct reduction.

With ten minutes left of regular playing time, however, Mexico showed that they were the ones who owned the match.

Uriel Antuna broke in and thundered away a left shot that went past the French goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni and into goal.

If it was over there?

Not according to Eduardo Aguirre.

The 22-year-old was also eager to engrave his name in the goal record - and did so.

He fired a hard shot that meant 4-1.

Today also awaits a match between the other two teams in the group, Japan and South Africa.
