Thanks to Mario Götze, who scored two goals, PSV Eindhoven took a first step towards the football Champions League.

The team of coach Roger Schmidt prevailed in the first leg of the second qualifying round at home against the Turkish runner-up Galatasaray Istanbul with 5: 1 (2: 1).

The Dutch led 2-0 through goals from Eran Zahavi (2nd / 35th minute) on Wednesday evening, before Emre Kilinc (42nd) made the connection shortly before the break.

After the restart, Götze was successful in the 51st minute, before the outstanding Zahavi (84th) scored his third goal again.

Götze (88.) then surprised Galatasaray keeper Fernando Muslera shortly before the end with a header and made the final score.

In addition to Götze, national player Philipp Max and the former Mainz Philipp Mwene were also in the starting line-up of former Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt.

The second leg will take place in a week.

In the third qualifying round, Eindhoven would face either Scottish club Celtic Glasgow or FC Midtjylland from Denmark (first leg 1-1).

Götze is going into his second season in Eindhoven. After he couldn't go on at Borussia Dortmund, the 2014 world champion surprisingly moved to the Netherlands. There his career picked up again after a difficult period. Only injuries slowed him down last. But now the new season has got off to a good start. The goal is to participate in the Champions League.
