A Chilean taekwondoist and a Dutch skateboarder, tested positive for coronavirus in Tokyo, were the first sportswomen in Japan to have to give up participating in the Games because of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

The first packages due to Covid-19 are already falling, two days before the opening ceremony.

79 positive cases for Covid out of 20,000 people tested

The Chilean Fernanda Aguirre, who came from Uzbekistan where she had prepared with her technical supervision, "is asymptomatic and in good health, but unfortunately will not be able to compete because the Japanese authorities impose a quarantine of ten days", explained the Chilean Olympic Committee in a statement.

The athlete was transferred to a medical residence, as was her trainer, tested negative but in contact.

She declared herself "destroyed and very sad" on social networks.

Likewise, Dutch skateboarder Candy Jacobs said she was "overwhelmed" by the news on social media.

"My Olympic adventure ends here. I feel in good health and I have done everything to avoid this scenario, I have taken all the precautions. (...) I will need a little time to digest my disappointment. On the way to Paris-2024 ", she wrote.

Since July 1, according to the count published Wednesday morning, 79 people have tested positive for coronavirus out of the more than 20,000 people tested (athletes, supervisors, media).

Among these 79 cases, eight concern athletes, five of whom are staying in the Olympic Village.
