It was last week that the Norwegian national team said they wanted to protest against the bikini compulsion and play in shorts.

They were then threatened with penalties for high fines and disqualification.

And very true.

After the Norwegians in Sunday's European Championship bronze match against Spain played in shorts, the International Handball Federation (IHF) announced that they will be fined.

The Norwegian association is forced to pay 150 euros per player.

- We must comply with the regulations of the EHF (European Handball Association), but I must say that it is unreasonable to accept that the rules look like this, says the president of the Norwegian Handball Association Kåre Geir Lio to Dagbladet.

The public wants to pay

Kåre Geir Lio tells NRK that the association has now been called down by people who want to help the players pay their fines.

But so far the union has said no to anyone who wants to help.

- We knew that we were doing "wrong" and we think we should pay the fine ourselves.

It becomes a bit inconvenient to handle that type of action as well.

We have said that we want them to spend their money on their local handball instead and give the money there, says Geir Lio.

The rules for attire in beach handball are clear.

“Women should wear a bikini where the top should be a tight-fitting sports bra with deep necklines at the arms.

The panties must not be more than ten centimeters on the sides ", it says in the regulations today.

Norway submitted an application to play in thigh-length tights before the tournament, but it was rejected.
