Luke Prokop has not played a game in the NHL yet.

But he has already written history.

In an interview with Athletic, the 19-year-old, who was selected by the Nashville Predators in the third round of last year's NHL draft, says that he is gay.

- I have talked to my friends, my family, my coaches, my agents and they have all been very supportive that I have come out as gay and they accept who I am.

I feel more confident on the ice after telling, he tells Athletic.

He has also written a post on Instagram.

"I hope that by sharing who I am, I can help others see that homosexuals are welcome in the hockey world, while we work towards hockey really being for everyone," he writes.

Prokop signed for Nashville in December 2020. At the moment, Prokop plays for the WHL team Calgary Hitmen.
