Friday's inauguration ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo will be historic not only because it takes place during a pandemic - but also because the Swedish Olympic team will be led by a woman and a man.

The decision to have the troops appoint two flag bearers is part of the International Olympic Committee's gender equality work.

- We think that the IOC is taking steps in the right direction all the time.

In Tokyo, there will be 48 percent female participants.

We know that it will be 50/50 in Paris 2024, says Lars Markusson.

In Rio 2016, swimmer Therese Alshammar was a Swedish flag bearer.

It is not clear who will receive the prestigious assignment this time

The pandemic restrictions - which among other things mean that athletes are not allowed to stay as long in the Olympic village as normal - mean that many Swedish participants will not even be in Tokyo on Friday.

In addition, the inauguration ceremony is delayed with a lot of waiting, which means that many give it up voluntarily to save energy before the competitions.

The Swedish national teams in swimming and football have already announced that they will not be present.

TT: What requirements does SOK place on a flag bearer?

- It must be a person who has been successful in previous games, says Lars Markusson.
