The committee in charge of managing the Zamalek club headed by Captain Hussein Labib officially withdrew the congratulations it had sent to Al-Ahly after winning the African Champions League title for the second year in a row at the expense of the South African Kaizer Chiefs, after what it called “abhorrent racism” that emerged from Some Al-Ahly fans against Zamalek player Shikabala during the celebrations of the Red Castle and its digital platforms for the tenth title.
A statement issued by the committee stated that it "refuses a segment of the fans to attack the Zamalek club and the captain of the first football team, which increases the state of tension among the great Zamalek fans everywhere, and accordingly it was decided to withdraw the congratulations."
The statement added: "This abhorrent racism that emerged from Al-Ahly fans against Shikabala is something that cannot be accepted, especially with its repetition on several occasions, and unfortunately it is the product of what Al-Ahly pages write."
The committee called on Al-Ahly’s administration to “punish the cause of these unacceptable transgressions, otherwise it is considered a tacit approval by them of that disgraceful behavior, which increases the tension among the masses, and the management of the Al-Ahly club bears his responsibility.”
For its part, Al-Ahly channel apologized to the Zamalek club management committee for the management of the channel’s social networking sites against the club, stressing its respect for the White Castle and its symbols, and said in a statement: “The Al-Ahly channel’s social media management presents a duty apology to the Zamalek Club Board of Directors, who presented with love Respect and congratulations on Al-Ahly’s victory in its tenth African title.”
She added: "One of the workers in the social media sector wrote an inappropriate comment, and accordingly the administration decided to suspend him from work and transfer him to investigation in preparation for his dismissal."
And she concluded: “The channel’s management emphasizes the individuality of the event and regrets its occurrence and its repetition and stresses its appreciation and respect for the Zamalek club’s board of directors and its symbols, and a commitment to mutual respect and taking the necessary action regarding the mentioned incident.”
