A player from the South African rugby team participating in the Tokyo Olympics has tested positive for COVID-19.

Five days before the opening of the Games, the number of confirmed cases from Olympic officials continues.

Japanese media, such as NHK, said, "A player from the South African men's rugby seven-man national team who entered Japan tested positive for COVID-19.

The South African rugby team entered Japan through Narita International Airport on the 13th, and was classified as a close contact after boarding the same flight as a confirmed case of Corona 19 at that time.

The players were quarantined near the airport and moved to Kagoshima, southern Japan, on the 17th, the field training site.

The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee said, "The players of the South African rugby team will be subjected to additional tests and will have to live in isolation at a hotel for the time being."

In Japan, the number of daily confirmed cases recently exceeded 3,000.

More than 1,000 people test positive every day in Tokyo alone.

Even among the athletes and officials who entered the country to participate in the Olympics, the number of confirmed cases continues.

In South Korea, Yoo Seung-min, IOC Athlete Commissioner of the International Olympic Committee, was confirmed yesterday (17th) at Narita Airport and quarantined.
