The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee announced today (17th) that there was a confirmed case of Corona 19 at the Tokyo Olympic Athletes' Village.
This is the first time that a person infected with Corona 19 has appeared in the athletes' village where athletes and coaches are staying during the tournament, and the tournament's quarantine measures were taken at a time six days left.
Toshiro Muto, secretary-general of the Tokyo Organizing Committee, said at a briefing, "A person from overseas who was staying at the athletes' village as an official of the tournament was confirmed by the Corona 19 test."
A spokesperson for the Tokyo Organizing Committee added that "infection was confirmed by screening tests."
The Tokyo Organizing Committee did not disclose details such as the nationality of the infected person for privacy reasons.
According to the organizing committee, the confirmed person has left the athletes' village and is being quarantined at a designated hotel.
