Anna Bernholm first tore off part of the cruciate ligament during a competition in Paris last year.

Then the accident occurred again in November - and from there Anna Bernholm has gone without a cruciate ligament.

The Swedish judoka announced already in March that the injury would not prevent her from betting on a medal.

Now there are only a few days left until the start of the Olympics and the road there has been long.

- I have had to do a lot of rehab and have had to follow a very strict plan in that regard.

And I have gradually had to step up with the training to get started well with judo again.

Of course, I have had to step up slowly but surely in terms of judo as well, she says during the press conference.

In May, she was back on the judo mat and made a good effort at a grand slam competition in Kazan.

Then she defeated the Brazilian Maria Portela and took third place.

- It has always been to work according to a clear plan and feel how much I can push my body and knee.

"No doubt"

The 30-year-old has had to change the training plan considerably.

- I have had to spend more time training strength than judo, for example.

This is an area that I have had to focus on, she says and continues:

- I have had a lot of training that strengthens around the legs and I have invested in my muscles to compensate.

Since then, I have also been able to focus on running strength in the upper body as well.

She has managed to find continuity in the new approach and the form feels good.

But sometimes she has to think about the risks of injury.

- I protect my knee by taping both in training and competition.

In training, it is stupid to expose yourself to unnecessary situations and I have made sure not to end up in such.

If there has been a situation where I felt insecure, I would rather have been thrown out than try to resist.

In competition, it's just driving.

I have no doubt that I will be able to go to the Olympics and drive fully.

- It is the biggest competition in judo and it is something you have been betting on for a very long time.

Whether there will be a knee operation after the championship leaves Bernholm, who is looking forward to the Olympics, unsaid.
