The all of a sudden revitalized golf professional Marcel Siem continues to mix in the top group at the 149th British Open at Royal St. George's in the English Sandwich.
One day after his 67th birthday on his 41st birthday, the Ratinger stayed three under par on Friday and was in seventh place with 134 strokes, five strokes behind the leader Louis Oosthuizen (South Africa).
The German top golfer Martin Kaymer (Mettmann), however, missed the cut.
Siem pushed his way up the leaderboard with two birdies at 17 and 18.
When the birdie putt fell at the final hole, the family man threw up both arms and enjoyed the applause.
"My little daughter said: Dad, you have to win," he later reported with a laugh.
Siem knows the typical coastal places on the British Isles well.
There he celebrated the first of his four victories on the European tour in 2004.
The "Open" in Sandwich is the fifth overall for Siem.
He had only secured the starting place for the oldest major tournament in the previous week with his victory on the Challenge Tour in France.
After finishing 27th in 2010 in St. Andrews, he failed in all three subsequent attempts at the cut.
Kaymer has to say goodbye despite a race to catch up.
The 36-year-old played two under par and worked out another chance to make the cut, which he missed on hole 18 with a failed putt for the birdie.
For Marcel Schneider (Pleidelsheim) the tournament is also over after two rounds.
Amateur Matthias Schmid achieved an excellent lap on the second day.
The Regensburg from Golf Club Herzogenaurach turned up after his 74 on Thursday and made the cut with a 65 and a total of 139 strokes.
