Saudi Arabia pins great hopes on its Olympic football team, and eight players, in different sports, to achieve a golden achievement in the Olympic Games, which start on the 23rd of this month in Tokyo.

The Saudi Olympic team awaits a difficult task during the Olympic competitions, as it faces its Ivory Coast on July 22, before meeting Germany three days later, to conclude its group matches against Brazil on the 28th of the same month.

"Our group is very strong, especially as it includes the Brazilian team, the champion of the previous edition, the German team, the runner-up, in addition to the Ivory Coast team, which is one of the strongest African teams in age groups," said the head of the Saudi Federation, Yasser Al-Mishal.

He added, "We have great confidence in the Saudi national team, and its ability to provide levels and results that satisfy the aspirations of the masses."

In the same context, the "Green" Olympic coach, Saad Al-Shehri, expressed his confidence in his players, explaining, "We have the capabilities to qualify for the next rounds in the Olympics, so the draw was not surprising for me."

The Al Hilal trio, Salman Al-Faraj, Salem Al-Dosari and Yasser Al-Shahrani, were selected as players over the age of 23, to join the Saudi Olympic team.

This is the third participation of the Saudi team in the Olympics, as it previously participated in Los Angeles 1984 and Atlanta 1996, and was bid farewell to the group stage in the two participants.
