Italy, in full rebirth, shattered England's dream on penalties (1-1 ap, 3-2 tab) to win their second Euro on Sunday. The final was held in London, in the incandescent and unruly volcano of Wembley, temple of football, with a heavy heart last night. So it was in Rome that the party continued all night long! In the heart of the Italian capital, immersed in the lukewarm summer night, the Italians celebrated with a concert of horns and foghorns, in a cloud of smoke, the second European title of the “Nazionale” since that of 1968. At the final whistle, thousands of tifosi draped in green-white-red tricolor flames left the fan-zones installed near the Colosseum or Piazza del Popolo to converge on Piazza Venezia,at the foot of the monument to King Victor Emmanuel II, father of unified Italy.
