Several relatively unknown players so far have distinguished themselves during Euro 2020, with sumptuous goals, a character well asserted for their age or simply performances worthy of the best players on the continent.

Europe 1 has selected the five revelations of this competition.

As the end of Euro 2020 approaches, the time has come to take stock of a competition that has broken out across the continent.

And this year, several players were able to take advantage of the competition to hatch in the eyes of the general public, who did not necessarily know them before the month of June.

Holders or not, young or old, attackers, midfielders or defenders, they have been able to show themselves at the level of a tough and trying tournament.

There is no doubt that their performance will have seduced their club… and caught the eye of many recruiters.

Here is a selection of five revelations that left their young mark on this Euro.

Pedri (Spain)

It is perhaps THE revelation of this Euro 2020. From the height of his 18 years, the Spaniard Pedri dazzled the competition with his class and his application.

Playing all matches in full, except two minutes before the penalty shoot-out against Switzerland, the FC Barcelona midfielder played with incredible accuracy throughout the tournament, organizing the game with an impressive maturity for his age.

The Spanish prodigy notably succeeded 100% of the passes he attempted in the first half against Italy.

"I have not seen anyone play at this age at the Euro, the World Cup or the Olympic Games. Not even Andres Iniesta", assured after the quarter-finals Luis Enrique, his coach.

"It is something that is beyond all logic."

Patrik Schick (Czech Republic)

Admittedly, he is no longer really very young (25 years old) and was already known to Italian and German football fans.

Nevertheless, Patrik Schick showed to the general public that he was an excellent striker, versatile and realistic.

If the Czech Republic have managed to reach the quarter-finals, it is above all thanks to their sense of goal.

Author of five goals in five matches (out of six Czech goals), including an incredible strike from 50 meters against Scotland and a nice volley against Denmark, the Bayer Leverkusen player confirmed all the expectations placed.

Co-top scorer with Cristiano Ronaldo, Schick has largely succeeded in his Euro.

Federico Chiesa (Italy)

And if it was him, the X factor of Italy for at the end of this Euro?

The 23-year-old Federico Chiesa was one of the architects of Squadra Azzura's excellent course, with two goals and constant percussion.

Evidenced by his goal against Spain, in the semifinals, on the hour of play. A ball recovered with the nerve near the opposing surface, three touches of the ball and a marvel of a wound ball, worthy of the greatest.

In the footsteps of his father, Enrico Chiesa, the young Juventus Turin player on loan from Fiorentina has established himself as the sharpest offensive weapon of Roberto Mancini, the transalpine coach.

Already in verve with the Bianconeri (14 goals last season), the future looking good for the Italians is first of all his.

Joakim Maehle (Denmark)

Until the 102nd minute for England-Denmark, in the semi-final, Joakim Maehle was flawless.

Unfortunately, a foul on Raheem Sterling in the penalty area tarnished the end of Euro for this impressive Danish left-back since the start of the competition.

Strong defensively, the 23-year-old almost signed for Olympique de Marseille last fall.

It is also a first choice offensive weapon, with two goals scored in this tournament.

But if his Euro will be remembered, it is also for the wonderful pass that the defender of Atalanta Bergamo addressed from the outside of the foot to Kasper Dolberg against the Czech Republic, one of the most beautiful gestures of this tournament.

Mikkel Damsgaard (Denmark)

Another Dane to have shone during this epic, Mikkel Damsgaard also marked the spirits.

What about his magnificent free kick against England, in the semi-final, to open the scoring?

And his brilliant inspiration against Russia, in hens.

These are just glimpses of the talent of the 21-year-old left winger, playing for Sampdoria in Genoa.

At the start of the tournament, however Mikkel Damsgaard did not start.

The young player had to compensate for the absence of Christian Eriksen, victim of a heart attack from the first match, and did very well, with constantly relevant choices, worthy of a captain in the selection.

"Damsgaard is a child prodigy," said Claudio Ranieri, his coach at Sampdoria, earlier this season.

The coach has undoubtedly seen before the whole of Europe the exceptional skills of the young Dane.

They also turned out

Other players also marked the tournament while we were not necessarily expecting them there. Like

Leonardo Spinazzola

, very good with Italy until an injury against Belgium, in the quarter-finals. Despite his 28 years, he had never really broken through at the highest level and made a name for himself during this Euro. This is also the case for

Denzel Dumfries

(25), a beautiful Dutch promise on the right side, author of two goals despite a premature elimination.

If the English relied on executives to progress in this tournament, young players have made a place for themselves in the rotation, such as

Kalvin Phillips

(25) or

Bukayo Saka

(19). If he did not start, he, Rennais

Jérémy Doku

(19) marked the spirits with Belgium, thanks to two good performances, in particular against Italy. Finally, the performance of

Roman Yaremtchouk

(25) suggests that Ukraine may have found the striker of great talent that they lacked since Andriy Schevchenko.
