The Olympic gymnastics team immediately went into preventive quarantine on Thursday evening.

This happened after the results of one of the corona tests for the athletes and staff members of TeamNL before departure to Tokyo produced a positive result within the gymnastics team.

As a result, both athletes and supervisors of the men's and women's gymnastics teams have gone into preventive isolation with immediate effect.

According to NOC*NSF, further testing and investigation will be carried out in the coming days to determine the nature of this contamination.

"No announcements are made about who it is," said the sports umbrella.

All members of TeamNL are tested on three occasions in the last six days before departure to Japan.

This is done to keep the risk of infections within TeamNL, but also to the other participants and the Japanese population as low as possible.

According to the schedule, the Olympic gymnastics team will leave for Japan on Sunday.

The selection includes Epke Zonderland, Bart Deurloo, Sanne and Lieke Wevers, Eythora Thorsdottir and Vera van Pol.

Elze Geurts and Naomi Visser are going as reserves.

Van Bokhoven forms the coach team for the Games in Tokyo with Aimee Boorman and José van der Veen.

On Thursday it was announced that there will be no spectators at the Games.

In March it became clear that foreign sports enthusiasts were not welcome, but it has now been decided not to admit Japanese people because of the corona virus.
