France is no exception.
The prefecture of the Vosges has announced the detection of an outbreak of nine positive cases for the Delta variant of Covid-19, supporters returning from Hungary where they attended a Portugal match at the Euro, according to a local elected official on Thursday.
"An Indian variant cluster has been detected among residents of Le Thillot and Fresse-sur-Moselle, with nine positive cases already identified," the prefecture said in a statement Wednesday evening.
These are nine supporters, members of the Portuguese community, left "at the end of June" by minibus to Hungary to attend a match of Portugal in Budapest for the Euro football, according to the mayor of Thillot, Michel Mourot.
Cases spread over two municipalities
“From there, they came back and it happened a week later.
We have six confirmed positive cases in the town of Thillot and three confirmed cases in Fresse-sur-Moselle.
But it's the same family, ”said Michel Mourot.
Portugal faced France at Puskas Arena in Budapest on June 23 (2-2).
When questioned, the prefecture did not however confirm the fact that they had probably been contaminated during this trip to Hungary.

Asked, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Grand Est did not respond immediately.
The ARS and the prefecture of the Vosges have announced the implementation of free screening and vaccination operations without an appointment in order to prevent the spread of the variant in the department.
