The whole of England talks about "football coming home".

And it now continues to roll in the right direction for the national team, which after the dramatic extra time win against Denmark is ready for its first European Championship final ever.

But they got a slap in the face in the first half.

England held the zero for over 650 minutes before Mikkel Damsgaard cracked it.

He took care of a free kick just outside the penalty area and offered a dream hit that became unreachable for Jordan Pickford.

Denmark in driver's seat, England in shock.

Six minutes later, the white-clad took revenge.

Bukayo Saka recorded the ball in the penalty area and Raheem Sterling was in front and disturbed midfielder Simon Kjaer who unfortunately slipped the ball into his own goal.

English sloppiness at the end

Six minutes into the second half, Kasper Dolberg was passed to a good closing position.

The 23-year-old put the ball right and fired a heavy shot low in Pickford's right corner, but the situation was then blown off for offside.

In the 55th minute, Schmeichel was tested instead.

Harry Maguire showed great flexibility and came up high on a free kick when he pressed the ball with his forehead and forced the Danish goalkeeper to stretch out really.

An English final forcing in the second half was not enough for a goal and the match went into extra time.

Punishment decided

The English press continued in overtime and in the 94th minute Harry Kane broke free to a sharp finish.

But the big-playing Schmeichel once again made a brilliant effort and got a hand on the ball.

Denmark were badly out in the ensuing minutes and in the 102nd minute the nightmare came true.

Sterling was torn down in the penalty area and Kane stepped forward to do the job from eleven meters.

The Tottenham star's penalty was tame and Schmeichel saved - but the striker could then postpone his own return.

It also became the decisive goal.

England had won 18 of their last 20 home games before the match.

The only loss during that suite came against Denmark on October 14 last year - and then Christian Eriksen accounted for the match's only goal.

This time, however, they did not manage to win.

England will now face Italy in the final.

The match will be played on July 11.
