Morata's wife is subjected to abuse and threats

Alice Campello, the wife of Spanish football striker Alvaro Morata, was subjected on Wednesday to online abuse and threats to her, her husband and their children via social media.

On Wednesday, Campiloli published some of the threats made to her, via the "Instagram" application.

Most of the messages sent to her were in Italian, and this came after Morata scored the 1-1 equalizer for the Spanish national team against his Italian counterpart on Tuesday evening in the European Nations Cup semi-finals.

Morata's goal caused the match to continue for an extra time, and he did not witness any goals, so the two teams ruled for the penalty shootout, which ended with Italy's 4-2 victory and its qualification to the final.

Morata has faced criticism since the beginning of the current European Championship for wasting valuable scoring opportunities, and reported threats and abuse against his family after the end of the group stage.

"Honestly, I don't suffer from any of these messages," Campello said. "I don't think it's about being Italian, it's about being ignorant."

"Let's remember that it is a sport to unite people, not to express frustration. I really hope that in the future we will be able to take serious measures against this type of person, because it is shameful and unacceptable," she added.
