The Football Association announces new appointments in the management of referees

The Emirates Football Association announced the appointment of Englishman Lee Robert as Director of Referees Management and Richard Millen as Technical Director of Referees Management, as part of efforts to develop the performance of Emirati referees and raise their standards.

Lee Robert was chosen based on his extensive field experience in the field of arbitration, which extends for more than twenty years, as a working referee for the International and European Football Associations.

Lee began his career with refereeing in 1999 and joined the elite referees to manage the English Premier League matches in 2007. During his long refereeing career, Lee Robert has managed a large number of important matches, including the FA Cup Final in 2014.

On the other hand, Richard Millen, the new technical director of the referees department, is considered one of the distinguished specialists in the fields of sports training and rehabilitation, as he worked as a regional official for the development and training of referees.

Salem Ali Al Shamsi, member of the Board of Directors of the Football Association and Chairman of the Referees Committee, explained that the appointment of Lee Robert and Richard Millen comes within the committee’s plans to develop the arbitration system, train referees and qualify them to carry out their duties at the local and continental levels, pointing out that the use of foreign expertise aims to improve the capabilities of stadium judges and develop their levels.

He said that the selection of the Director of the Referees Department and the Technical Director came from the reality of the great experience they have, and we hope that our referees will benefit from it in raising their capabilities and acquiring more knowledge that will help them improve performance and appear in a decent image, especially as the Federation places its full confidence in the national cadre and supports it strongly.
