The British government is slowing down the coming of foreign fans to London because of the health context, on the occasion of the semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley.

Spain, Italy and Denmark can therefore only count on the support of their supporters residing in England.

A disappointment for most of the supporters of three of the four semi-finalists of Euro 2020. Spain, Italy and Denmark will have to do without the support of a large part of their fans at Wembley Stadium, in London, where the matches of the last four of the competition are played exclusively.

The British government confirmed on Sunday that any foreigner wishing to travel to England must undergo a ten-day quarantine, reducible to five with a negative PCR test.

This seems to compromise the coming of Spanish, Italian and Danish fans for the Italy-Spain (Tuesday) and England-Denmark (Wednesday) half-stages, as well as for the final on July 11.

A delicate health context

The British government's decision comes in a delicate health context with the organization of the competition.

The semi-finals and the final will welcome 60,000 spectators at Wembley, while several cases of Covid-19 have been detected in supporters since the start of the Euro.

The Russian city of Saint Petersburg, host of the Spain-Switzerland quarterfinal on Friday, is rebounding from the epidemic.

During the group stage, 300 Finnish supporters returned to their country testing positive for the virus.

Russia is not the only country concerned.

In a report released on Wednesday, the Scottish Public Health Agency established that between June 11 and June 28, 1,991 Scottish residents who tested positive for Covid-19 participated in one or more Euro-related events, that is ie coming to Hampden Park stadium in Glasgow, gathering in the fan zone or informal gatherings in a bar or home.

Moreover, the World Health Organization does not exclude the role of "super-contaminant" of Euro 2020.

No quarantine for residents in England

Only residents of England can overcome the constraints of quarantine. This concerns the English supporters of course, who will support their team in numbers. But also the Spanish, Italian and Danish fans already present in the country. Like the arrival of 2,000 English spectators residing in Italy at the Olympic Stadium in Rome during the quarter-final between England and Ukraine. 2,000 Danes also traveled to Baku, Azerbaijan for the match against the Czech Republic on Saturday, despite health restrictions.

For the last four of the competition, all spectators must be in possession of a negative antigen test 48 hours before the start of the match to enter Wembley grounds. Wearing a mask will also be compulsory. So many precautions for a reception capacity (75%) never seen in England since the start of the pandemic.
