The image of a little girl, a supporter of Germany and in tears, was broadcast on social networks after the elimination of her country in the round of 16 of the Euro. Internet users reacted violently to this publication, going so far as to call the child a "little Nazi". In response, a Welshman launched a fundraiser in favor of the little girl.

The image was widely shared on social networks: after Germany's defeat in the round of 16 of the Euro against England last Tuesday (0-2), a camera stopped on a little girl, supporter of Germany, weeping bitter tears.

The story could have ended there, the scene being rather banal in the stands of a Euro football.

But internet users, a priori fans of England, have used this image to pour their hatred on Twitter, as the former football player Stanley Collymore denounced in a tweet, notably through the Liverpool club.

No words necessary.

"Horrible" tweets

In the hateful tweets of these Internet users, the child is notably insulted by "little Nazi".

A situation that greatly annoyed Joel Hughes, a 51-year-old Welsh supporter.

Finding these reactions "horrible", he started an online fundraiser with the initial goal of raising £ 500 so that the girl's parents could give him something and thus show him "that everyone in the UK does not. is not horrible ".

As so often, the outpouring of solidarity far exceeded expectations.

On Sunday, the prize pool counted more than 3,000 donors and nearly 34,000 pounds sterling collected (nearly 40,000 euros).

Looking forward to parents

"You are fantastic," responded the Welshman in a message posted on the prize pool page on Sunday. So far, Joel Hughes said he was still waiting for a sign from the girl's parents. With no return from them, he planned to donate the money "to a good cause."
