The final result of the fan vote to select a fielder to start in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on the 13th of this month was announced on the 1st, and Otani was the top in the American League designated hitter category.
This is the fourth time that a Japanese fielder has been selected by fan voting, following Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, and Kosuke Fukudome, and the first designated hitter.
