Here Paul Pogba strikes with a dream goal against Switzerland

Switzerland took the lead

The vast majority had probably bet on a strong French advantage throughout the match.

But unexpectedly, it was Switzerland who took the lead.

After 15 minutes Haris Seferovic made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Steven Zuber who shuffled it past the keeper.

And right in the second half, Switzerland got a golden chance to extend when they were awarded a penalty.

Ricardo Rodriguez pulled on a good shot but Hugo Lloris went in the right direction and saved.

It was an alarm clock for the French.

Benzema acknowledged

Just two minutes later, Kylian Mbappé found Karim Benzema who heeled the ball and then put it in to 1-1.

But he was not happy there.

Two minutes later, Antoine Griezmann sent in a ball right in front of goal where Benzema was and could nod in 2-1 to France.

Then came one of the championship's most delicious goals.

Placed a few meters outside the penalty area, Paul Pogba pulled on a shot that in a completely perfect course sailed into the right cross.

France had 3-1 and stood with one foot in a quarter final.

Switzerland acknowledged

But Switzerland wanted something else.

In the 90th minute Granit Xhaka found Mario Gavranovic with a long, fine pass and Gavranovic managed the chance well and placed the ball to 3-3 and the match went to extra time.

An extra time that was goalless and the tournament's first penalty awaited.

It was a penalty shootout where everyone except the last shooter, superstar Kylian Mbappé set his penalty. This is the first time since 1992 that Switzerland has defeated France. And for the first time since 1983 they win a knockout match.
