Viñales "I have never been so angry in my life"
Maverick Viñales and the Yamaha team have reached an agreement to terminate their two-year contract at the end of this season,
at the request of the Spanish rider
, after a five-year bond.
"Both parties have pledged to do their utmost
in the remainder of the MotoGP season
and to end their relationship in an optimal way," the team said in a statement.
The pilot had expressed his discomfort after being last in the German race, while this weekend at the Dutch GP he finished second.
"
I am desperate
, there are many races in which I know I have potential and I cannot show it," he said after his last race.
He is sixth overall of the season, led by another Yamaha, that of the Frenchman Fabio Quartaro.
In the farewell statement, Viñales assures that the agreement has been very important to him during the last five years "and it has been a
difficult decision to
separate."
"In these seasons together we have experienced both great achievements and difficult moments. However, the underlying feeling is one of
mutual respect and appreciation
. I am fully committed and will strive for the best results in the remainder of the season," he adds.
For his part, the director of the team, Lin Jarvis, has indicated that this separation
causes
him
"sadness"
and speaks of "important discussions" after what happened in Assen.
"Over these years we have reached many high points, but we have also had to manage many low points. After the German GP, which was the most difficult weekend in our association, we had important discussions in Assen and reached the conclusion that it would be in the interest of both parties to go their separate ways in the future. Yamaha will do its best, as we have always done, to give all the support to Maverick and finish this season in the best possible way, "he says.
