The prosecutor in charge of the investigation into the death of Diego Maradona will question a key player in the case on Monday.

The personal doctor and confidant of the ex-Argentine football star, neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, considered the most important member of the former player's medical team, will be heard from noon (5 p.m. in Paris).

Dr Luque, 39, is summoned before the public prosecutor of San Isidro, in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, who opened an investigation for "manslaughter with aggravating circumstances". He is the last of seven members of Maradona's medical team to be heard in this investigation.

At the beginning of May, an expert report concluded that Diego Maradona had been “abandoned to his fate” by his medical team, whose “inadequate, deficient and reckless” treatment had led him to slow agony.

Leather jacket and motorcycle helmet, Dr Luque had become a media figure after having operated in early November on his famous patient for a blood clot to the head.

It was he who coordinated the recovery of the footballer in a rented house, with the agreement of the family, in a private neighborhood in the suburbs of Buenos Aires where the former 1986 world champion died, alone, on November 25. .

Before Leopoldo Luque, prosecutors heard from two nurses, their supervisor, a doctor coordinating home care, a psychologist and a psychiatrist.

During the hearings, Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov were singled out as the main health officials in Maradona.

Heard on Friday, Agustina Cosachov, 36, rejected all responsibility.

The prosecution believes, however, that "the serious state of health" of Maradona "was known to all health professionals" involved in the case.

These seven professionals risk a referral to a court depending on the conclusions of the investigation, and if necessary sentences of 8 to 25 years in prison.
