England and Germany clash for a boiling shock in the round of 16 of the Euro, Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Wembley.

A new episode in the age-old rivalry between these two countries, the antagonism of which goes far beyond the framework of the field.

Few encounters smell as much sulfur as Germany-England. The two nations will add a new line to their rivalry on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the occasion of a highly anticipated round of 16 Euro, in the "temple of football" of Wembley, London. But very clever who can predict the result of this poster between two teams which did not convince, far from it, during the first round of the competition. England, with its young and talented squad, still managed to finish at the top of its group with two wins and a draw, despite insufficient performances. Germany, for its part, alternated the very good (4-2 victory against Portugal) and the frankly worrying (the 2-2 snatched against Hungary). Europe 1 presents this enticing meeting to you.

The player: Harry Kane expected at the turn

For the moment, Harry Kane crosses the Euro like a ghost.

The English striker, formidable with Tottenham and with the English selection, has still not found the net.

More worrying, the center forward with 34 goals in international matches seems in great physical suffering and connects the tasteless performances.

Fortunately, his compatriot Raheem Sterling holds his place, he who has scored England's only two goals in the competition (against the Czech Republic and Croatia).

But if the Three Lions want to win the first Euro in their history, they will have to rely on a great Harry Kane.

What if the "Hurrikane" (pun with hurricane) wake-up call was for Monday?

The question: what composition for Germany?

Defeated from the start by the Blues (1-0), the Mannschaft thought they had found their typical team thanks to their superb victory against Portugal 4-2. Failed: the Germans displayed huge gaps against Hungary (2- 2), snatching the draw and qualifying in the last minutes.

Since then, the debate has raged across the Rhine and observers urge coach Joachim Löw to field a team similar to that of Bayern Munich.

The midfielder particularly crystallizes the critics, with a duo Gündogan-Kroos singled out for his performances since the start of the Euro.

But there is no indication that Löw will align the Kimmich-Goretzka pair against England, which has been making Bayern happy for several seasons.

Unless…

Statistics: the English curse since 1966

This England-Germany will also be highly symbolic since it will be played at Wembley, the scene of two legendary clashes. In 1966, the English had won their only World Cup there against the FRG in the final (4-2 ap), with a goal which no one knows if it was valid or not from Geoffrey Hurst. Except that since that date, the Three Lions have never managed to beat the Germans in a knockout match of a major competition. There were in particular two traumatic defeats on penalties, in the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup then especially in the semi-finals of Euro 1996 ... at Wembley.

The last clash, in the round of 16 of the 2010 World Cup, had also caused a lot of ink to flow. The referee did not allow a goal that came widely behind the line following a strike from Frank Lampard, while the English were down 2-1 (the video did not exist at the time). The Germans finally won (4-1), once again. What if the curse ended on Monday?
