A second serious incident was undoubtedly avoided on the road to the Tour de France this Sunday.

According to

Ouest-France

, a man wanted to throw himself under the wheels of the peloton during this second stage won by Mathieu Van der Poel at the top of the coast of Mûr-de-Bretagne (Côtes d'Armor).

The incident took place in Lannion, where the platoon passed around 2 p.m.

The police reportedly intervened just in time to stop him.

It was officers in civilian clothes who allegedly saw him hurtling down an adjacent street towards the axis taken by the runners.

Intercepted in time, the man was transported to Lannion hospital where he was admitted to psychiatric care.

Already four withdrawals

Saturday, a violent fall marked the first stage of the Tour between Brest and Landerneau (Finistère).

A woman holding a sign with her back to the race was struck by runner Tony Martin resulting in a major crash in the peloton.

The gendarmerie announced Sunday the opening of a judicial investigation against the spectator.

A call for witnesses was launched to find her and a judicial investigation opened for "involuntary injuries with incapacity not exceeding three months by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence", specified the gendarmerie of Finistère on Facebook .

This collective fall did not cause any serious injury among the public massed at the side of the roads, had indicated the gendarmerie, but several runners were seriously affected, including the Briton Chris Froome.

Four withdrawals are already to be deplored on the second day of the race.
