Barcelona president Joan Laporta said that he was surprised by the team's situation, and stressed that the situation was worse than he expected, and warned that all possibilities were possible in order to save the team.

Laporta spoke in an interview with the Spanish newspaper, "La Vanguardia", about the most prominent points that he will address during his intervention today, Sunday, in front of the club's members, in his first meeting with them since his accession to the presidency of the team last March.

According to excerpts of the interview published by the newspapers MARCA and Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said, "The club is worse than I expected, there are contracts that tie us up. There are things that need to be explained, people always show themselves in contracts, I do not rule out any action. We will explain everything because if we don't do it we will be complicit."

The Catalan club president stressed that it was necessary to work to reduce salaries that cost the team huge money, and said, "We found a lot of employees with old salaries, which gives them an opportunity to manipulate, the current contracts can be changed or reorganized. Nothing is excluded in the interest of Barcelona. Between salaries and expenses we reach to 650 million euros, which is higher than the club's income."

Barcelona recently revealed debts amounting to one billion euros, a large part of which is short-term, which raised fears about the financial situation of the club, which was expected before the Corona pandemic to be the first team whose income exceeded one billion euros.

On the other hand, Laporta spoke about the issue of renewing the contract of the first star of the team, Lionel Messi, and said, "I would like Messi to tell us that he agreed to the renewal as soon as possible. This will help us a lot, and I am grateful to him for his desire to stay."

Despite the difficult financial situation, the Barcelona president confirmed the continuation of concluding new deals during the current transfer market, and said, "There will be 3 or 4 more contracts."
