When, in 2019, it became clear that the World Cup will take place in Sweden, three cities immediately announced their interest in hosting.

Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm were all three eager to get the event and started campaigns and application processes towards the Ice Hockey Association.

After much deliberation, Stockholm's argument finally won.

- We have had a solid "bid process" where the various cities have had to submit tenders to see if they can create this folk festival and lasting impression that we are looking for and that is where Stockholm came out strongest, explains the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's chairman Anders Larsson to SVT Sports.

The City of Stockholm contributes 30 million

And the things Stockholm has been able to show are about everything from the arena to how they can secure the sporting event.

- It is about so-called fan zones and how it should be possible to drive spectators to the matches and breathe hockey throughout the city and region.

And here Stockholm has really shown its front feet, says Larsson.

The City of Stockholm has invested heavily in winning the World Cup.

- This will be a good injection in the hospitality industry.

There has been a lack of events, but now we are charged and will gather strength like never before for 2025, says Finance Councilor Anna Köning Jerlmyr to SVT Sport.

Stockholm promises SEK 30 million for the event.

- We go in with SEK 30 million in financing but also with a lot of commitment.

This will be a folk festival, I can promise that, says Jerlmyr for the day wearing a Tre Kronor shirt.

Learned from 2013

Sweden has two failed World Cups behind it and a real failure most recently in this year's World Cup.

A home WC to work towards can have positive effects, also on Tre Kronor's opportunities to get back to the top.

2013 was a sporting success with World Cup gold but financially it was a failure.

20 million back was the result then.

Larsson is sure that they have now prepared so that it will not be repeated in 2025.

- We have analyzed in detail and also made a comparison with the Danish event 2018 so I feel that we have a robust plan and model and are here four years before with an agreement with the city and the arena and can start chopping in and working.

I feel safe.

The World Cup will be a collaboration with Denmark where parts of the championship will be played.
