Regarding the Tokyo Marathon scheduled for October, the sponsoring foundation has decided to limit the number of general runners who can participate to Japan, as it is uncertain that general runners living overseas will be able to enter Japan.

The Tokyo Marathon has been held in March every year with the participation of invited athletes and general runners, but this is scheduled to be held on October 17, due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. ..

Regarding this, the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, which hosts the event, held a private board meeting on the 17th, and as a result of examining immigration restrictions to Japan and the state of infection in the world, general runners living overseas were asked to participate in the event in Japan. We decided to limit the general runners who can participate to Japan because there is no prospect of entering the country.

According to the Foundation, about 3,000 overseas runners who were scheduled to participate will be able to participate in the next year's competition instead.

On the other hand, it has become mandatory for general domestic runners who participate in this year's competition to undergo a PCR test in advance.

The Tokyo Marathon Foundation says, "I am very sorry to all the runners living overseas who were looking forward to it. We will continue to strive for a safe and secure competition."
