Nabil Maaloul reveals the reason for resigning from training Syria.. and criticizes Firas Maaloul

Tunisian Nabil Maaloul confirmed his official resignation from the training of the Syrian national team, which qualified for the decisive third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, noting that it was not the result of the moment and that he was free from any association with the Syrian Football Association since last April for not receiving his dues. Maaloul's confirmation came in a statement to Al-Balad TV, in which he said, "I informed the Syrian Federation in the month of March, and I had almost a year without receiving any salary, and I sent a message in which I informed the Federation that no coach can be patient for a whole year without any salary .. I knew that the mistake was Not from the Syrian Federation, but it is the sanctions imposed on Syria that prevented the Asian Federation from giving us our dues."

He continued, "I announced the possibility of moving away immediately if things did not improve, and it is fifteen days, and after I sent the message on April 4, I became free, but the insistence of the Syrian Federation and the players made me complete the remaining match. We won two matches, lost one match, and topped the group." On the demand of Firas Maalla, head of the General Sports Federation in Syria, that Maaloul submit his resignation after the recent loss to China, the former coach of Kuwait and Tunisia said, "I have no income... He wants to push me because of internal conflicts between the Football Association and the General Sports Federation."

Maalla had criticized Nabil Maaloul after the team's 1-3 loss to China at the end of the second round of the Asian qualifiers, considering that he did not provide any addition to the Syrian team. Despite Syria's top position in the group and its qualification to the Asian Cup finals and to the decisive third round of qualifying for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Moalla criticized the team's level, in a statement to AFP, "I demand that Nabil Maaloul resign, as he did not provide any addition to the team."

Maaloul had told Sham FM radio that Maaloul's continuation "is the responsibility of the Football Association....and some players are ignored, and Maaloul does not deserve the money."

The Syrian Football Association had contracted with Maaloul in March 2020 for one million euros, with 280,000 euros to be paid upon signing the contract, and the rest in installments of up to thirty thousand euros per month with other additions, including a bonus of 83 thousand euros when the team qualified for the next stage of the double qualifiers. However, the Syrian Football Association was unable to pay Maaloul's accumulated salaries due to the seizure of his frozen funds in the International and Asian Federations, in implementation of Caesar's sanctions.

Maaloul was the coach of the Syrian national team, succeeding the local coach, Fajr Ibrahim, who achieved five consecutive victories in the double qualifiers, and left Maaloul to complete the qualifiers in the remaining matches against the Maldives, Guam and China.
