Cristiano Ronaldo made history in the European football championships, as he became the tournament's top scorer and the first player to participate in 5 editions, after scoring two goals and leading the defending champions Portugal to a 3-0 victory over Hungary in the opening group F matches at Euro 2020 today, Tuesday.

In just 5 minutes, Ronaldo scored two consecutive goals for Portugal, taking his tally to 11 goals in the European Championship, breaking the record set by former French star Michel Platini (9 goals).

Ronaldo, the captain of the Portuguese national team, became the first player to participate in 5 European Nations Championships, after he appeared for the first time with Portugal in the 2004 edition, and also participated in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 editions.

The Portuguese captain also surpassed German Bastian Schweinsteiger to become the player with the most participation in European Championship matches, as he played 22 matches in the finals.

The Portuguese team advanced with a goal scored by Rafael Guerrero in the 84th minute, and Ronaldo added the second and third goals in the 87th minute from a penalty kick, and the third from overtime for the match.
