Unpleasant scenes took place at Parken in Copenhagen last Saturday when Christian Eriksen collapsed in the match against Finland.

He received cardiopulmonary resuscitation before being taken to hospital and his condition was unknown for a long time.

Despite this, the Danish players were given two choices by the European Football Association Uefa: Finish the match at 20.30 the same evening or 12.00 the next day.

In retrospect, Denmark, who chose to play the match the same evening, has been critical of Uefa forcing the players to take a stand on these two alternatives.

- The only right thing would have been to send the players home, said national team captain Kasper Hjulmand as late as today.

"No other options"

In a comment to Yahoo Sports, UEFA's spokesperson admits that the players were given this choice.

The person adds that there were no other alternatives because Denmark will play against Belgium on Thursday.

- The fact that the players need 48 hours of rest between matches meant that we had no other options.

The spokesperson also says:

- Uefa is sure that they treated the issue with the utmost respect for the sensitive situation and for the players.

SVT Sport has contacted Karl-Erik Nilsson, vice president of Uefa, who does not want to comment.
