England started the Euro with a victory over Croatia (1-0) thanks to a goal from Sterling on Sunday in front of their Wembley audience.

The English have logically beaten a weak Croatian team, after a disappointing shock in Group D.

The result without the manner for England.

The English started the Euro with a narrow victory against Croatia (1-0) on Sunday in front of their supporters at Wembley Stadium in London.

But this shock of Group D was far from keeping its promises, with few chances and even deep boredom for much of the meeting.

However, the young Englishmen deserved their victory, they who dominated and obtained the best opportunities, to take their revenge on the semi-final of the World Cup lost against these same Croats.

The selection at the Checkers, for its part, confirmed its clear loss of speed in recent months, not affording the slightest opportunity.

The Savior: Sterling unlocks a disappointing encounter

It was one of the most anticipated posters of this first round.

The revenge of the semi-final of the last World Cup, won by the Croats (2-1 ap), however gave birth to a mouse.

Raheem Sterling fortunately unblocked the meeting by resuming the flat right foot a pass in the magnificent interval from Philipps, in the 57th.

Phil Foden had found the post early in the match (6th), while Harry Kane almost triumphed over a cross in the box in the 61st.

The English, however, have largely deserved to win and finally break the curse, they who had never won their first match at the Euro (in nine attempts).

But they will have to raise their level of play, from Friday evening during the "derby" against Scotland, if they want to honor their status as applicants for the final victory.

The disappointment: for Croatia, the World Cup seems a long way off

If the game was so sad, it was largely because Croatia had hardly offered anything from the game.

Light years away from the team that enchanted the last World Cup and reached the final, the selection of the Balkans did not afford the slightest opportunity of the meeting.

The recent results of Croatia had raised fears of the end of a cycle, without several of the heroes of 2018 having retired (Rakitic, Mandzukic, Subasic…).

It's up to the Croats to make the observers lie in the next match against the Czech Republic, Friday at 6 p.m.

Fright: Harry Kane hits the post, more fear than harm

We were afraid for Harry Kane. In the 61st minute, the English striker and captain almost doubled the bet by volleying a cross from the right. The Tottenham striker hit just above, but mostly he hit the post. After a few moments on the ground and care, he finally resumed his place. More fear than harm, then.
