Maximilian Schachmann preserved his chance of an overall victory in the 85th Tour de Suisse on the sixth stage.

The 27-year-old Berliner from Team Bora-hansgrohe reached the finish line with the main peloton on Friday after 130.1 kilometers from Fiesch to Disentis Sedrun and, two days before the end of the eight-day tour of Switzerland, is 38 seconds behind the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz three overall.

The Dane Andres Kron secured the day's victory of the demanding part of the day. The 23-year-old sprinted over the finish line in second behind the former Portuguese world champion Rui Costa, but was declared the day's winner at the end of the stage because Costa had left his driving line and thus hindered Kron. Schachmann, who had already won the French long-distance Paris-Nice race this year, crossed the finish line 2:49 minutes later as 41st with all the other contenders for overall victory.

On Saturday, the seventh and penultimate stage is on the program with a 23.2-kilometer mountain time trial. The day section promises excitement in the fight for the overall victory: First, it goes from the start in Disentis Sedrun of 1413 meters up to the Oberalp Pass at 2043 meters, from there downhill to the finish in Andermatt (1436 meters). The race, used by many drivers as a dress rehearsal for the Tour de France, comes to an end on Sunday after 159.5 kilometers with start and finish in Andermatt.
