European Cup.. De Bruyne's position determined from participating in the Belgium-Russia match

Belgium confirmed today, Friday, that its prominent midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, will miss the first match of the team in the European Football Championship 2020, against the Russian national team, tomorrow, Saturday.

De Bruyne suffered a broken nose and the bones surrounding the cavity of his left eye, during his participation with his team, Manchester City, in the Champions League final last month, and he underwent minor surgery last week.

Midfielder Axel Witsel is also recovering from an ankle ligament injury.

The Belgian national team said on its Twitter account: "Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne did not travel (with the team) to Russia. They remained at the team's training center in Belgium in order to complete the recovery process."

Belgium is competing in Group B with Russia, Finland and Denmark.

The European Nations Cup 2020 opens today, Friday, with the match between Italy and Turkey.

The tournament was supposed to be held in the summer of last year, but it was decided to postpone it for the current year due to the crisis of the Corona virus pandemic.
