Roxana Maracineanu has given the green light to the organization of fan-zones throughout the duration of the Euro, subject to a strict health protocol.

While some cities, such as Bron or Saint-Denis, have jumped at the opportunity, others prefer to skip their turn or wait for certain restrictions to be lifted.

The kickoff of the Euro will be given on Friday at 9 p.m. After a year of waiting due to the pandemic, supporters will be able to follow daily matches until July 11. But if they want to see them in a group, outside or in a bar, it will be necessary to do with strict sanitary instructions. "We hardly announced that there would be many fan-zones, that we had calls from various mayors," smiles the Minister for Sport, Roxana Maracineanu.

Jérémie Bréaud, the mayor of Bron - city of star Karim Benzema - believes that the protocol is certainly strict but not insurmountable.

"The gauge is limited to 900 people. For security reasons, they must register on the internet, respect the barrier gestures and be seated. It will not be easy, but it is up to us to to pass the instructions. To offer happiness to people, that is priceless ", he rejoices at the microphone of Europe 1.

Nîmes and Lens decline

The city of Saint-Denis also decided to mobilize from the first match of the Blues, Tuesday, June 15.

This is not the case with most large cities.

In Paris, Lyon, Nice or Strasbourg, we are waiting for the month of July, and the end of certain restrictions to consider gatherings.

Because from June 30, the curfew will be lifted and supporters will have the right to stand.

The mayors of these cities are giving themselves three weeks to reflect.

Others have already made their decision, such as Nîmes and Lens, who prefer to do without them, finding them too complicated to organized and too risky.

In Rennes, the town hall goes even further: the matches cannot be broadcast on the terraces of the bars, in order to avoid crowds.
