The Australian Richie Porte (Ineos) won the Critérium du Dauphiné, the dress rehearsal in the Alps of the Tour de France, on Sunday, in the resort of Les Gets.

Third in the Tour de France last year, Porte won for the first time in the Dauphiné, four years after losing victory on the last day.

The 36-year-old Australian succeeds Colombian Daniel Martinez, who won the previous edition last August ahead of Frenchman Thibaut Pinot.

Lutsenko and Thomas on the podium

This 8th and last stage was won by Mark Padun (Bahrain), his second success in two days in the mountains after his victory at La Plagne.

The Ukrainian once again put out an astonishing performance.

He flew, winged climber style, from the first slopes of Joux-Plane, an uncategorized pass of 11.6 kilometers with 8.5% average slope.

He rocked to the top with more than a minute and a half ahead of his pursuers (Konrad, Vingegaard) and managed the very technical descent.

🚴 Incredible double for Mark Padun (Bahrain) who won the last queen stage in Les Gets, after his triumph the day before at La Plagne!

In the final standings, Porte is ahead of Kazakh Alexey Lutsenko, second at 17 seconds.

His Welsh teammate Geraint Thomas, winner of the Tour de France 2018, was third, at 29 seconds.

Thomas fell on the descent from Joux-Plane, less than 10 kilometers from the finish, but was able to regain his place in the group of favorites.
